Students are encouraged to use their imaginations to create wonderful works of art, become different characters and/or delight in their own musicality. The Arts program is all encompassing and a favourite amongst many of the students.
All students have the opportunity to express their creativity through arts & crafts. Our fantastic art room with its specialist equipment and wonderful display areas is an inspriring environmnet in which students are free to create their own wonderful works of art.
Victorian State Schools Spectacular Each year the Victorian Department of Education & Training commits to showcasing the wonderful talent we have in Victorian State School's Performing Arts programs. A cast of thousands come together in a spectacular performance at Hisense Arena and perform a 3 hour production for over 10 000 audience members. This is a fabulous opportunity for children in Grades 3-6 to be a part of something truly amazing. Students from CPS make a commitment to rehearse on their own time (often during lunch breaks etc) and learn the backing vocals for many songs to be performed as part of the show. This involves rehearsals once a week at school (during term 3) as well as a couple of day excursions to Melbourne before culminating in a 3 day camp and a then 2 fabulous performances at Hisense Arena. This wonderful experience for everyone involved has become a regular addition to our music program at CPS.
Wakakirri is Australia's largest Performing Arts Event for schools with separate events for Primary and Secondary schools. Each year schools across Australia create story Dances for Wakakirri that reflect student's thoughts, ideas and aspirations. These stories are performed in professional theatres in front of the official "Wakakirri Panel" who are searching for 'Story of the Year'.
Students have the opportunity to be involved either on stage or behind the scenes, creating props, costumes, etc. and bringing a story to life. Churchill Primary School's participation in Wakakirri is part of our Performing Arts Program on a biannual basis. Our participation in Wakakirri will rotate with Victorian State School's Spectacular every second year.
